Learning to spin wool fleece into yarn at Saori Santa Cruz

Mark has been knitting for over 50 years, and has wanted to learn to spin for just about that long as well! Today he ventured up to to the redwood mountains to SAORI SANTA CRUZ studio  for spinning  classes  . What a fun student and he is  defiantly on his was to being a spinner.... take a peek....

FILLING THE FIRST DROP SPINDLE WITH  SPINNING FROM DIFFERENT LIGHT WOOL ROVINGS

 PARK AND DRAFT
SPINNING THE  SECOND SPINDLE WITH DARKER WOOL FIBER .

PLIED HIS FIRST SPINDLE ! TOUCH DOWN! MISSION COMPLETED ! "WAIT ! HOW DO I GET IT OFF THE SPINDLE?"
EASY  Mark we make a skein using a niddy noddy.
Then twist it  into a little hank . " OH MY GAWD I love this"
"WOW MY VERY FIRST SKEIN! I AM GOING TO GO HOME AND KNIT THIS UP TODAY"

Just enough time  for  trying a little quick go of out how to spin on the louet S90 wheel.
He really did under stand the traveling twist up the fiber at the wheel quite well, and the drawing in.... but for now he is going to take a  turkish style drop spindle home and some fiber and practice and spin every day. A a great plan!

Peace through fibers
